Dedication and devotion leads to perfection! Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao is counted in one of those personalities who are committed towards science and technology for the upliftment of the society.
He served the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, for eighteen years and created world class engineers. Since April, 2016, he is serving as the director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. Prof. Rao has 43 patents to his name, out of which 15 are collaborated with industries for commercialization. After having over 450 publications under his name, he is still working with the same enthusiasm. He is indeed a motivation for the young generation.
Prof. Rao is rich with awards (he has approximately 30 awards to his name), few of them include Infosys Prize (2013), Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Engineering Sciences (2005), and Swarnajayanti Fellowship Award.
He belongs to a remote village in Telangana, where he gained his intermediate education. He pursued his bachelor’s from Kakatiya University (1986) and Masters from IIT, Bombay (1991). He achieved his doctorate at the Universitaet der Bundeswehr, Munich, Germany (1997).

Recently, Prof. Rao has taken a step forward to set up the Space Technology Cell in IIT, Delhi. This cell is in collaboration with ISRO.
