Dr.RA Mashelkar has brought the knowledge of patenting into the field of science. 

“The flight of imagination has no limit-except the one that you put on your own mind”- RA Mashelkar’s these words have inspired a lot of people. Not only his words but he himself is an inspiration.

Dr. Raghunath Anant Mashelkar, also known as Ramesh Mashelkar is a former Director-General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He heads the chain of 38 publicly funded industrial research and development institutions in India. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE) respectively.

Sir is the third Indian engineer to be elected a member of the Royal Society (FRS) in London. He has been a member of the Prime Minister's Scientific Advisory Board and the Cabinet-appointed Scientific Advisory Board. He has led twelve committees set up to study various topics, including higher education, national fuel policy, the drug regulatory system, and the agricultural research system. 

One of his important contributions to society is his legal movement against US patents on turmeric, neem and basmati rice. It also led to the recognition and need for tougher intellectual property laws in the country, in addition to the title "The Haldighati Warrior".  Dr. Mashelkar has received several awards including the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award. Sir has been elected to different academies and advisory councils across the world. He is currently the National Research Professor and Chairperson of the National Innovation Foundation. 

He believes that the purpose of his life is to make innovation a way of life in Indian industry. The biggest challenges in the future cannot be solved by individuals, institutions or independent nations, but can be done by a global network. He strongly believes that "the self must be synonymous with innovation in every Indian".

Sir Mashelkar says, "If God permits one wish, I will ask for one day on earth again in 2050 to see my dream come true - India as a leading advanced nation." He is truly a blessing and boon for India.
